Water - the Foundation of Life
There is no life without water! Water is our most important food. Water is the main component of every cell in the body and is responsible for communication between the various associations of cells. Water regulates every single function of the human organism, from growth to metabolism, from digestion to cardiovascular function.
Water has many various roles in our body: From a functional point of view it acts as a solvent, and it is a means of transport and cleansing. It transports nutrients to cells, removes by-products of metabolism, regulates body temperature and much more. The excretion of toxic products via the kidneys, intestine, skin and lungs can only take place with the help of water. In this way the body loses 3 to 4 quarts of water daily. This fluid loss must be made up. If we do not, our body literally dries out. The result is that metabolic processes no longer function properly, blood thickens, waste products are deposited in joints and vessels, and the aging process speeds up rapidly.
When is the Best Time to Drink?
The best time to give your body water is between mealtimes. Drink the greater part of your individual water requirement a quarter of an hour before eating and about an hour after each mealtime. It is advisable to drink only a little with your meal as liquid dilutes the digestive juices and considerably delays and blocks the digestive process.
How Much Water Should you Drink?
The quantity of water depends on your individual weight. Apply the following rule of thumb:
Half a Fluid Ounce of Water Per Pound of Body Weight
Thus, someone weighing 160 pounds should drink at least 80 fluid ounces or 2.5 quarts of bottled or filtered water a day.
Which Water Should we Drink?
Most people believe that when they drink lemonade, coke, beer, wine or coffee, they are satisfying their fluid requirements. This is a big mistake! While it is true that these drinks consist mainly of water, the additives mean that the water has few free anchors to bind toxic materials and eliminate them. The fewer the ingredients - including minerals – in water, the better its cleaning power. Thus, even carbonated and sparkling water have only a limited capacity to absorb toxins; while caffeinated drinks, such as coffee and coke, and high proof spirits, in fact, extract water from the body.
Especially when losing weight, sufficient water intake is necessary because most of the toxic substances are stored in our fat tissues. When the fat is melting, If you drink too little or the wrong liquid, the toxins get back into the circulation and can evoke problems like headache, skin blemish, etc.. Only water is able to bind the toxins and eliminate them.
